“Amber are you working right now?” I ask

“I was working until about a week ago. I was fired because I couldn’t physically do the job anymore.” She tells us.

  “Where did you work?”

“I worked at a nursing home off of Palumbo Dr. and Man O’ War.” She says with a hint of sadness.

“I know where the place is. How old are you?

“I’m eighteen. I’m in college taking CNA classes as well as Billing and Coding. I should be done shortly after the baby’s born. As long as I don’t have to take any time off. I feel like this is a job interview.”

  Dean and I laugh.

“Relax Amber. It’s an interview of sorts and today’s your lucky day. Do you mind if I see my phone for a minute?”

“Honey, will you hand her your phone until I can give her my phone again. I want to make sure she’s comfortable and knows that she can call for help at any given second.” I ask Dean.

He smiles and hands her his phone and she hands me mine.

“Amber I need to make a call and I’ll be right at the door. You can see me from your seat.”

“Have you purchased the Townhouse yet? I ask Mr. Turner.

  He tells me he has.

“I found a tenant for the property. I have stipulations for her though. She can live there free for the first six months. After the six months, she can live there rent free as long as she can prove she’s in School. She can’t let anybody move in with her. When she gets out of college she’ll pay a set amount for the remaining time she lives there.”

I’ll be leaving the place furnished. She’ll be able to keep the furniture and all possessions; if or when she decides to move out.”

“I’ll write up the contract and bring it to the house in a couple of hours.” He says with a laugh.

We say our good byes and I make my way back to the table. We eat and talk a little bit more.

“I have a proposal for you. If you agree, you’ll have a home for you and your child this afternoon.”

“What’re you talking about? Is this a joke?” She asks.

I tell her my story. When I’m done I explain to her that I’m now doing for her what was done for me. When we get up to leave she tries to hand Dean money for her food.

“Darlin I don’t need or want your money. You keep it because you’ll need all your money to take care of that baby of yours.”

She thanks him for lunch and we get back into the SUV. Dean drives us to the Townhouse so she can look around.

“Where are we?” She asks as we are pulling up.

“This is the place you can call home once you sign the contract.” I say to her.

“Are you serious?” She asks with tears in her eyes.

“I’ve never been more serious in my life.” I say to her.

She does a walk through and I can tell she’s excited and possibly a little scared that this is a joke. The doorbell rings and Dean walks downstairs to answer the door. Dean comes back upstairs with Mr. Turner who’s brought the contract.

“Will you sit in with us please?” I ask Mr. Turner.

He agrees to sit in and explain the contract to Amber.

“Honey, will you call Nic and ask if we can stay with her until Friday?” I ask Dean.

“I’ll call her now baby. Have I told you how fucking amazing you are? You’ve blown me away with what you’re doing for that girl. I love you baby.” He says and then kisses me.

“I agree with the stipulations.” Amber says after looking over the paperwork.

She signs, I sign, and then Mr. Turner signs. I shake his hand and Amber gives him a hug and then hugs me.

“Congratulations Amber on your first home. I’ll be leaving almost everything here with you. There’s a car in the garage and that’ll also be yours. I do need to get the car into the shop first. It might take a couple of days before you get it back.” I say to her.

“Nic’s excited about us staying with her. I’m supposed to tell you to give Amber her number if she needs a Doctor for the baby. The prospects are on their way over with Shadow. They’re going to help pack and move the things you want. I called the dealership. The tow truck’s coming to get the car. I’m sending it to the Glenn’s to have it worked on.” My man whispers to me.

“You’re the greatest honey.” I say to him and kiss him.

“Finish up with Amber babe. We need to start packing the stuff you want to take with us home.” He says and smacks my ass.

“Amber would you like to move in here know? We’ll be moving the twins’ stuff out along with the few things I want in just a few minutes.”

“Are serious? Like really truly serious?” She asks

“I’m serious sweetie. If you have any problems with the house or anything at all you call Mr. Turner or myself okay?”

“You’re my Guardian Angel.” She says to me.

“I’m paying it forward. Dean’s sister Dr. Delia Henderson is a Pediatrician. She asked him to give you her number if you need a Doctor for your baby.”

“Thank you both some much. I’ll give her a call.” She says with tears in her eyes.

Shadow and the prospects knock on the door and Mr. Turner says his goodbyes as the guys come in with boxes. We start packing up the twins’ room and the clothes from my room. Dean’s upstairs taking all the pictures of the twins and me down and putting them in a box. He takes my photo albums next. Then start taking the pictures from the stairwell down and comes into my room and grabs the pictures from the dresser.

“I want to look at all the pictures. If I’m the one taking them down I can see them all. I also know that they’ll be packed right and won’t break the glass.”

I give him a kiss and finish my room. I go to the deck and open the storage room door. I grab out the containers and put them on the deck. A prospect with the blonde Mohawk comes out and grabs a couple of them. He nods his head at me and starts taking them to the trailer. I go to the garage and check if there’s anything in there I want to keep. I yell into the house for Dean to come help me for a minute.

“Will you take one of the cribs into the baby’s room.” I ask him.

He nods and starts takes it in the house. I grab the mattress and follow him down to the newly vacated room. I holler up to Amber.

“Would you mind coming down here for a minute Amber. I have a few questions for you. Do you know if you’re having a boy or a girl?”

She lets us know she’s having a girl. I go back to the garage and grab the containers that has all of Jazz’s crib bedding and baby clothes. I take them down to the baby’s room. I have all my keepsakes in the containers Mohawk guy took to the trailer already.

“Do you want Jasmine’s baby stuff? There’s three sets of bedding. I also kept the majority of Jasmine’s baby clothes. Do you have any friends that are pregnant or need boy’s clothes and bedding? If not I’m going to have a donation truck come by and pick up the extra crib and the boys clothes. Anything else you don’t want send with the truck also.”

“I’ll keep anything you’re willing to give me. This is amazing and I don’t know how to Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. Nobody has ever done anything like this for me. I’m so happy right now I could scream. Lyric, you’re seriously an Angel. Thank you so much.” She says to me with a smile.

Shadow and Dean start to put the crib together and I throw the bedding into the wash. The tow truck comes and gets the car as the prospects get the last of our stuff on the trailer. The dealership calls right before we’re leaving and tells me that the car will be ready on Wednesday.

“Amber I’ll be back on Wednesday to pick you up to take you downtown to transfer the title. Then I’ll take you to get the car. You said earlier you’re in school taking CNA classes as well as Billing and Coding classes correct?”

“Yes ma’am that’s correct.” She responds

“Call Dr. Morris tomorrow and tell her that I told you to call about the position she had just come available.”
<
br />   “I’m so thankful for running into you today.” She says to me as she hugs me tight.

“Sometimes people need a break and you’re one of those people.” I say to her what Brian said to me.

We take the trailer to Nic’s house and drop it in the driveway before we go pick the kids up from school.

“We’ll be staying at Aunt Nic’s house for a couple of days until we leave for Harlan.” We tell the twins once they are in their seats.

“What about mine and sissy’s stuff? Jamie asks.

“It’s all packed up in the trailer. We left out a few toys and some clothes.” I tell them.

They seem to think about it for a minute and ask if Dixie and Daisy can sleep with them until we leave?

“You’ll have to ask Aunt Nic.”

“She’ll totally let them sleep with us.” They both say with smiles.

The week flies by and before I know it; it’s Friday and we plan on leaving in the morning for Harlan. The prospects left a couple of hours ago. Shadow will be leaving when we do. Dean and Shadow will be riding their bikes. I’ll be driving my Yukon.

“I’m thinking about buying a vehicle when I take Amber to get the car.” I said to Dean on Wednesday.

“Don’t bother because you’ll have the Yukon.” Dean said to me.

“I won’t take your vehicle from you.”

“I have the Yukon, a truck, and I still has Journey. I’ll have a vehicle to drive. Baby, you won’t win this fight.” He said as he looked at me.

“Fine but you’re not getting the Yukon back!”

“It’ll be parked next to my truck until you want something new. Then I’ll buy you whatever you want. I know you have money and you don’t need mine. However, I want you to use your money on whatever; but I’m a man and I provide for my family.” He said then he kissed me hard.

We’ve discussed setting up trust funds for the twins and keeping a portion of the money in the Properties Account for maintenance along with the fee for the lawyer. He knows that I still want to work even if its part-time. He tells me that I can work for him at the Mining Company or the small hospital in town.

  Chapter 21

  Lyric

“Momma can we watch a movie?” Jamie asks as we are leaving Saturday morning.

“I have “The Croods” or “Inside Out. So you two need to discuss which movie you want to watch first.”

They decided they wanted to watch “The Croods” first. We pull out of the driveway and I follow behind Dean and Shadow. I can’t stand the quiet so I put on the satellite radio. I start jamming out to country music. I never would’ve listened to this music when I was younger. I was more of a classic rock girl. Don’t get me wrong I still listen to the Classics but I can appreciate other genres now. We jump on I-75 from the Athens-Boonesboro exit and head south. About an hour later we get onto US-25E South in Corbin. We have been on the road for about and two hours and my ass is getting sore. We are getting ready to get onto US-119 outside of Pineville when we decide to stop and eat at Engle’s Restaurant. I’m thankful because I know the twins are hungry and I need to get out and stretch. The place looks like a store and I look at Dean with a questioning look.

“This place has the best burgers around.” He says with a smile.

I trust that he would know about the places around here. We go in and the first thing I notice is the old Coca-Cola menu sign on the wall and the red booth tables. I take Jazz to the bathroom to wash up. Jamie’s thrilled his dad can now take him to the boy’s bathroom instead of having to follow along with us girls. We meet back up and grab a booth. Dean orders chicken nuggets, fries, and fruit punches for the kids. I ask for a cheeseburger with everything, curly fries, and a Dr. Pepper. Dean and Shadow both order cheeseburgers with everything, chili dogs, curly fries, and Dr. Pepper.

“How far are we from Harlan?” I ask between bites.

“We’re about forty-five minutes from there. It won’t take long once we get back on the road.”

He tells us about Chained Rock, the Hotel, and the State Park that’s around here.

“When we leave here we’re going to stop at the water spigot on US-119 and get some water.”

The children and I just look at him.

“People always stop there for the water because it’s fresh from the mountain and tastes amazing.” He says with a chuckle.

He was right about the burger and the water. I know I’ll be coming back here to eat. We’re back on the road and I tell Jazz and Jamie it won’t be much longer. They have full stomach’s and are content because I put on the other movie before we got back on the road. We come up to a three-way highway intersection in the center of Baxter. It a Coal Monument made of stacked and mortared blocks of shiny coal that stands about fifteen feet tall. We go a little bit down the road and on the side of the road I see a Motel named Jones’s. It’s definitely a no tell motel. I shiver and shake my head because the place looks like creepers hang out there and its way past it’s prime. We turn left onto KY-38 and that takes us into Harlan. I wish I wasn’t driving because I want to look around the town that Dean and my family call home. I figure he’ll have to take a day and drive me around and tell me everything he knows about this town. I can see the town on my left but we drive right past it. We continue on KY-38 for a few more minutes and on the right I see a sign that says “String Town.” I see a Gas Station named “Last Stop” and some Shanty houses. From what I can see it goes for a couple of blocks back. It looks to me like neighborhoods. Not even a half of a mile later I see another sign that says “Clover Town”. There’s only one building but there are two signs. One sign says “Mag’s Bar” and the other sign says “Slice Steel Tattoo Parlor”. I continue another half a mile and I look on my right and see a creek and think that’ll be a place I’ll take the kids. I also see the Rail Road Tracks and I’ll have to make sure that they know not to play by or on them. I’ll have to learn the train schedule also. We turn right onto Maggie Lane Rd. Shadow then turns right and waves to us. We turn left onto Kitts Rd. It also looks like a little town all on its own. I see the sign that says “Kitts” and there are a few trailers. I know we’re close to our new home and I could scream with excitement. We go over the rail road tracks and you can see small houses and trailers on both sides of the road. On down the road a little you see Omega’s Store and a few houses and what looks like an apartment building. We continue down the road and I see the Mining Company. There’s another little road that splits from Kitts and it’s called Kitts Camp Rd. I think that’s where more trailers and houses are. We continue on the road and I see we’re right next to the Rail Road tracks and then we go to the right up the hill. When we come around the small bend I see our new home. It’s beautifully rustic with a wraparound porch. I can see Dean and I snuggling on a porch swing or drinking coffee in the morning in a couple of rocking chairs. I fall in love with the house immediately and I haven’t even seen the inside yet.

“Look out the windows you two. We’re home.” I say as I turn the music and movie off.

They look out the window and start getting excited.

“Is this a mansion?” Jazz asks.

“Can we have a dog?” Jamie asks.

I tell Jazz that it looks like a Princess’s home. I tell Jamie that his dad and I will talk about getting a dog. I put the car into park and turn it off. I get out and open the back door so the kids can get out of their seats. They start running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

I start to stretch when I feel Dean come up behind me and growl. I look over my shoulder at him.

“I can’t wait until tonight so I can fuck you.” He says to me as he wraps his arms around me.

I shiver and push my ass into his jean covered cock. He steps away from me and smacks my ass and then grabs my hand and tells the kids to follow us. I think we’re going into the house but we follow a path to the backyard. The backyard’s huge and the porch goes around the whole house. Here in the back the porch turns into a
deck it sprawls out. There’s an outside kitchen that has a grill, stove, island that has a sink, and a fridge. The space can be closed in with a wall of windows for winter. Next to the kitchen is a Tiki Bar. This will be nice when we have his brothers and their families over. There’s an outside sectional and a couple of lounge chairs. On the other side of the porch I see a hot tube. There’s a pool that has a fence around it just off the porch. I see that there’s a storage space and I assume that’s were more chairs and tables are. I see a small building that looks like a guest house. I walk to the building and see it’s a pool house. It looks like a guest house. It has a kitchen, living room and two bedrooms. There’s also a couple of changing rooms along with bathrooms with showers. I walk out of the pool house and see that there’s still plenty of space for kids to have a swing set.
